PERTH, TAS

perth early learning centre

Value: $2.6M

This project involved the master planning, schematic and detailed design, tender documentation and construction phase services for the $3.5 million new Early Learning Centre adjacent to the Perth Primary School in Tasmania.

The project site is a “battle-axe” block and is therefore concealed from the road. Issues such as identity / iconography, accessibility, permeability and security therefore became vitally important to the success of this project. Enabling and encouraging the project to engage with the adjacent Primary School, sharing vistas / observation, access points and architectural language were similarly important. Careful research and consideration was given to the developmental stages of the children who attend, with environments to suit the needs of children from birth to 12 years, including Out of School Hours Care.

The light, bright indoor spaces were designed to allow for active learning areas, play-based experiences, small group work and areas for quieter relaxation or individual activity. The interiors aimed to focus on the natural environment and blur the transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
