The Statewide Services Relocation project provided a new three floor facility for Turning Point and Spectrum staff in Melbourne. The design scheme incorporated large open space areas and corresponding blocks of enclosed ‘pods’ which created the necessary public to private gradient between staff and their patients.
The final design included a 24 hour tolls area, multiple consult rooms, executive offices and over 200 individual workstations. Early schematic design phases focused on establishing a seamless correlation between staff and patient areas, ultimately providing a holistic environment for all users. Design development stages contended with rigorous health and safety requirements due to potential threats posed by incoming patients. Observation corridors in conjunction with multiple exit rooms and highly durable fixtures and finishes were therefore employed where necessary to ensure safety and wellbeing of staff in exposed areas.
